But admittedly, he was "undersized" in a way that D1 coaches took note of it.
A couple of players on his team had earned D1 one spots and while he had multiple conversations with Coaches, no offers had come through.
And that’s when we heard from a friend who was coaching at a big D1 school.
“He’s a solid player, all the right technical tools, but small – and it’s not that don’t like undersized players, but we’ve seen him get outmuscled for ground balls and shy away from physicality or get into the gritty battles. That’s the stuff that separates players.”
It might have been tough feedback to hear for Tyler – but it was helpful.
He even recognized that he didn’t feel the confident in battles or drives and had become a parameter player because he knew he could thrive there.
“If I could develop that type of strength on the ball you see elite players have.. I'd honestly probably have more confidence driving the net or engaging defenders more... It honestly would transform my game”.
For the past few years he’d conceded that it was impossible to gain muscle and that he had the “skinny genes” – but we broke down his training, he was using old school workouts and expecting to throw on bodybuilder muscle.
